S.H.M. Diet Program  

In the last century, human life expectancy has been up 30 years. This can be considered as the greatest accomplishment in human history for the past five thousand years. The number of centenarians from 1990 to 2000 has increased by 51%.

This weight loss program was established by The Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital. It is designed for overweight heart patients to rapidly lose weight, usually before surgery. The seven-day diet plan is on the basis of cleaning up the ¡§polluted¡¨ body systems by getting rid of excessive calories. If the program is followed with discipline, after the 7th day, one can expect to lose 10 ¡V 16 pounds with a good physical feeling and noticeable health improvement. This program can be repeated as needed. However, at the end of each 7th day, you must stop the soup for several days before restarting the cycle.

Dos and Don'ts

  • Eat vegetable, fruits and food that has high level of fiber
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Do not drink alcohol 24 hours prior to start of the program
  • No rice, sugar, alcohol or carbonated drinks (diet drinks inclusive)
  • No deep fried food (e.g., French fries, fried chicken, etc.)
  • Roast duck or roast chicken can be used as a substitute beef but must remove skin

Basic recipe (per meal):

Scallions: 8 plants
Tomatoes: 125 grams
Garlic: 3 large ones
Green peppers: 2
Korea lettuce: 1 large
Lipton mixed soup (with onion): 1 can

Alternate recipe (per meal):

Scallions: 4 ¡V 5 plants
Large garlic: 2 ¡V 3 pieces
Green peppers: 3
Tomatoes: 3
Cabbage: 1 small or half a large
Carrots: 3 large
Celery: one half plant
Knorr's chicken broth mix artificial favor

Cut vegetables in small pieces. Cook recipe in strong heat with ordinary amount of water for soup until vegetable is soft (approximately 10 minutes). Add salt, pepper, curry or other spice as desired.

Day 1: (low calorie day)

Food: Vegetable soup, basic or alternate from above and any amount of fruits (except bananas, cantaloupes, honeydews or any high calorie fruits.)
Drink: water, tea (no sugar added)

Day 2: (low calorie day)

Food: Vegetable soup, basic or alternate from above, other green vegetables (no soy bean, broad bean or corn). No fruits. Optionally for dinner ¡V one baked potato (whipped cream can be added)
Drink: water, tea (no sugar added)


Day 3: (low calorie day)

Food: Vegetable soup, basic or alternate from above and any amount of fruits and green vegetables. No baked potatoes.
Drink: water, tea (no sugar added)


Day 4: (high carbohydrate day)

Food: Same as day 3. Also eat 3 bananas. (Today you need potassium and carbohydrates).
Drink: water, tea (no sugar added). Also drink skim milk.


Day 5: (high protein day):

Food: Vegetable soup, basic or alternate (at least once) Eat beef (250 ¡V 300 grams) and 8 fresh tomatoes.
Drink: water (at least 6 large glasses), tea (no sugar added). Also drink skim milk.


Day 6: (higher protein day)

Food: Vegetable soup, basic or alternate (at least once) Eat any amount of beef (2 ¡V 3 steaks) and green vegetables (broad leaves). No baked potatoes. (Beef can be substituted by chicken, duck or steamed fish.)
Drink: water, tea (no sugar added).


Day 7: : (low calorie day)

Food: Vegetable soup, basic or alternate (at least once) Other vegetables as desired
Drink: water, tea (no sugar), fruit juice (no sugar).
